International Overdose Awareness Day 2026
Our local observance of International Overdose Awareness Day has provided opportunities for healing and hope since 2017, but the international observance is marking its 25th anniversary this year.
The RISE Drug Free MKE coalition, formerly MCSAP, is gathering overdose survivors and loved ones affected by overdose to events that honor the personal and community impact of the overdose epidemic.
Events in Veterans Park include a resource fair, a community walk, speakers, free food, a memorial space, candle ceremony, and watching the Hoan Bridge light up purple in honor of everyone who has been touched by overdose.
5 – 6 pm: Registration and staffed resource tables (T-shirt, passport, and food ticket)
5:45 – 6 pm: Speakers
6 – 7:30 pm: 1-mile community walk and unstaffed resource tables
6:30 – 7:30 pm: Food and memorial space
7:30 pm: Candle Ceremony
8 pm: Light the Hoan
These events are free and open to the public, but registration is appreciated. If you are participating in the memorial walk, you must register and sign a waiver to participate. Please click the link below to register. Thank you!
Milwaukee's International Overdose Awareness Day observance is supported by the partnership of City of Milwaukee Health Department, Milwaukee County Department of Health and Human Services, Milwaukee County Parks, and RISE Drug Free MKE coalition members and partners.
